Designing a clearer route to private healthcare across Ireland

Making every step easier

Finding the right healthcare can be difficult. Patients may need to understand their options, identify a specialist, choose a location and decide how to access or pay for treatment –often while feeling uncertain about what to do next. We redesigned the Kingsbridge experience around those moments. Clear navigation, connected clinical information and direct routes to tools such as live waiting times and appointment booking help patients move forward with greater confidence.

Kingsbridge Interface

The result is a calmer, more supportive journey through a complex healthcare system.

Kingsbridge Interface 2

Healthcare is complex. Finding care should not be.

Kingsbridge is one of the leading private healthcare providers on the island of Ireland. Its network brings together five locations, more than 300 consultants and expertise across Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery and many other specialisms. Its patients have different needs, circumstances and levels of digital confidence. Some arrive knowing the consultant or procedure they need. Others are beginning with a symptom, a referral or a general question about how private healthcare works. They may be self-funding, using medical insurance or seeking treatment through the Cross-Border Healthcare Plan. The website needed to make this breadth of care understandable without oversimplifying it. It had to work across two healthcare jurisdictions, support patients and clinical referrers, connect several patient-facing systems and remain accessible, secure and easy for the Kingsbridge team to manage.

This was more than an information challenge. It was an opportunity to give people clarity at a moment when they need it most.

Kingsbridge Lifestyle

Designing around real patient decisions

We approached the website as a connected healthcare service rather than a collection of pages. The experience was shaped around the questions patients actually ask: What treatment do I need? Who can I see? Where is it available? How soon can I get an appointment? What will it cost? What should I do next? These questions became the organising logic for the platform.

Kingsbridge Mobile Interface

We created an information architecture capable of supporting several journeys at once—from someone researching a common procedure or looking for the earliest available appointment, to a GP making a referral or a returning patient accessing the portal. Services, procedures, consultants and locations were connected as parts of the same system. This allows people to begin in different places, move naturally between related information and reach a useful next step without having to understand how the organisation works behind the scenes.

Alongside this structural work, we translated the Kingsbridge brand into a distinctive digital design language. Clear typography, considered colour, generous space and human-centred imagery balance the confidence of a leading private healthcare provider with the warmth and reassurance patients need.

The result feels premium without being exclusive, clinical without being cold, and authoritative without becoming overwhelming.

Connecting every patient to the right care

The redesigned platform brings Kingsbridge’s clinical offer into one responsive experience. Patients can explore services and common procedures, find a suitable consultant, compare live waiting times, understand their payment options and move directly into appointment booking. Each feature was designed as part of the wider patient journey. Consultant profiles connect people with relevant expertise. Location information appears in context. Waiting times turn availability into something clear and actionable. Booking, portal access and referral pathways are surfaced at the moments they are most useful.

A dedicated Women’s Health section brings related services, treatments and specialists together in one accessible space. Organised around women’s needs at different stages of life, it offers a more supportive route to trusted information and appropriate care. The platform also provides focused guidance for people using the Cross-Border Healthcare Plan, patients navigating self-pay or insurance options, and GPs and clinicians making referrals.

Kingsbridge Lifestyle 2

Designed to work at scale

Behind the simplicity of the experience is a substantial and interconnected digital estate. Consultants relate to specialisms, procedures and locations. Patient journeys extend into booking, authentication and referral systems. Content must respond to different audiences, funding routes and healthcare jurisdictions while remaining consistent across the organisation. We created a flexible design system and reusable content patterns to manage this complexity. The same foundations support detailed clinical information, patient tools, campaign content and practical hospital guidance, giving Kingsbridge the freedom to evolve without fragmenting the experience. The content model also makes the platform easier to maintain. New consultants, services and locations can be introduced within a consistent structure, while the Kingsbridge team can manage everyday updates without creating an ongoing technical burden.

What feels deliberately simple on the surface is supported by nearly two years of strategy, design and technical work underneath.

A digital front door to Kingsbridge

The website has moved beyond being a place to publish information. It now plays an active role in how people discover services, assess their options and access care.

High-intent actions – finding a consultant, checking availability, booking an appointment, entering the patient portal or making a referral – are brought together within one patient-centred experience.

Kingsbridge Interface Detail 3

For Kingsbridge, the platform provides a stronger foundation for growth. It can accommodate new services, specialists and patient tools while maintaining the consistency and quality of the wider brand experience. For patients, it offers something simpler but more important: a clearer route forward.

Kingsbridge Lifestyle 3

Built to keep improving

Kingsbridge is an ongoing partnership, not a one-off launch. Since the project began in 2024, the platform has continued to evolve alongside the organisation through ongoing design, content management, maintenance and technical support. This long-term relationship allows the experience to respond to changing patient needs, new clinical services and evidence from real-world use.

2 jurisdictions. 5 locations. 300+ consultants. 1 clearer route into care.
